EiiF was among the signatories of the letter organised by CAN Europe, addressed to the EU decision makers, asking for an ambitious 2040 target, crucial in order to stay below the 1.5 °C rise in temperatures.
The signatories of the letter ask for at least 90% net emission reductions, compared to 1990 levels, in line with the recommendations by the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change (ESABCC).
According to the 2023 study carried out by ESABCC, the EU must strive for net emissions reductions of 90-95% by 2040, relative to 1990 levels. These reductions are essential for mitigating climate risks and achieving a sustainable future.
