Two weeks before the EU announces its updated 2030 emissions reduction legislation, the ‘Fit for 55
package’ businesses and European & global business networks, are urging EU leaders to deliver the action
needed to support global efforts to keep the average temperature rise below 1.5 °C.
The open letter led by CLG Europe states: “As business leaders with a stake in the EU, we see a once in a
lifetime opportunity to deliver the transition to a net zero economy, as the world invests in the post-covid-19
recovery and as the world’s biggest economies, corporations and investors themselves commit to a race to
zero. [...]
The letter underlines that “it is clear that the Green Deal and the EU’s growth strategy are one and the same,
and that the upcoming “Fit for 55%” package of climate legislation can provide the engine for that strategy.”
The business letter outlines 10 guiding principles for an effective and coherent package, including calling for energy efficiency and decarbonisation. Industrial insulation is ready to deliver. The EiiF Study 2021 analyses that 14 Mtoe of energy could be saved by applying energy class C systems according to VDI 4610 Part 1, offering the potential to reduce the EU’s CO₂ equivalent emissions by 40 Mt every year. The insulation technology needed already exists and just needs to be better utilised.
